The Best of Bristol

The latest edition of In The Know sees our Venue Find Team Manager, Marlene Scott, talking about her recommendations of the best places to book your next meeting in Bristol. Take a look, and hopefully some inspiration, from the following…

Hotel du Vin, Avon Gorge

Overlooking Brunel’s Clifton Suspension Bridge, this elegant boutique hotel is a 3-minute walk from Clifton Village’s shops and restaurants, and 1 mile to Bristol Zoo.
The contemporary rooms and suites (some with bridge views) include en-suite bathrooms facilities. All rooms have their own unique style, some suites have kitchenettes or access to a private garden.

Amenities include a cafe with floor-to-ceiling windows offering Modern British dishes and afternoon teas, a relaxed bar featuring a large heated terrace, and meeting space. Guests also receive free access to Clifton College’s fitness centre, less than a mile away.

The White Lion Bar has recently been refurbished and has one of the largest terraces in the south west, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the world-famous Clifton Suspension Bridge and the hills of Somerset. Fantastic panoramic views and a great way to enjoy a drink after work.

The hotel has 3 meeting rooms from 20 boardroom style to a drink’s reception for 100.

With chandeliers and stained-glass windows this adds some industrial history to the main room.  The spaces give your event an added sense of occasion and are very adaptable for dining, presentations or board-style meetings. The main space is a light and airy room with large original windows facing the Gorge – a view as prestigious as they come!

De Vere Tortworth Court

I was lucky enough to stay a couple of times at this hotel, it is stunning and I immediately felt relaxed from check in right through to departing! The bedrooms in the house all have their own unique style and not one room is the same, fantastic hospitality is also guaranteed from my experiences.

De Vere Tortworth Court is set in 30 acres of magnificent South Gloucestershire countryside so great for outdoor team building activities. The location is also appealing for most delegates, being only 20 minutes from Bristol and moments from the M5 and M4. With its designation as a Grade II listed Victorian Mansion, the hotel offers all the grandeur of an elegant retreat combined with modern facilities. The venue underwent a multi-million-pound refurbishment in 2017.

14 function rooms covering 880 sq m, maximum capacities at 400 theatre or 280 banquet. The Orangery is a unique, domed glass event space that provides a sense of grandeur, individuality and uniqueness, it accommodates up to 90 for a banquet or 100 theatre style and has a wedding licence – it is stunning and when see on a site inspection will seal the deal!

The hotel offers 201 bedrooms, of which you have 55 bedrooms in the Mansion House itself. The number of bedrooms make it the perfect venue for residential conferences, awards ceremonies and team building activities.   The hotel also has its very own cat – Lady Grey – perfect for the animal lovers amongst us!

Mercure Brigstow Hotel

Mercure Bristol Brigstow Hotel is located in the vibrant part of Bristol City Centre, just steps away from main venues, such as Saint Nicolas Market, The Old Vic, Cabot Circus and the Harbour. The restaurant Buttermilk and Maple is inspired by that lounge loving Australian café scene with a dash of Brooklyn East coast. Indulge in great quality food during the day or relax in the evening with a craft beer or cocktail at the bar.

The hotel also has 4 conference rooms for 2 to 60 delegates.

Mercure Bristol Brigstow Hotel can facilitate meetings for up to 85 people and events for up to 100. There is a self-contained meetings and events floor featuring panoramic views over the river, and all meeting rooms are air conditioned. The Mezzanine Gallery is an open-plan space available for dining, receptions and social gatherings.

The hotel is perfectly located with river views and within walking distance of central Bristol.

Bristol Harbour Hotel and Spa

I have had the chance to stay personally at this hotel and I can confirm that it is a venue that has fantastic character and lots of history, in line with being a listed building. It’s a good location in the city centre and has a great vibe about it.

This hotel is a unique design, formerly two iconic bank buildings. Now offering contemporary and luxurious accommodation with impeccable design and spectacular event space accommodating between 10 – 350 guests. William Bruce Gingell is behind the remarkable design of the former Lloyds Bank building, inspired by Sansovino’s 16th century venetian Library.

Sansovino’s has beautiful, historical detail and a magnificent sky light, providing a stunning backdrop for a diverse range of occasions, from Award Ceremonies and Exhibitions to Corporate Functions and Christmas Parties.

“The Vault” is a beautiful room that has been created in the original banking vaults of the hotel. It provides a unique back drop for smaller events or is the ideal syndicate space.

The hotel has a stunning restaurant and a separate bar called ‘The Gold Bar’ – a very apt name indeed once you have seen it for yourself! This is a great space for those cocktails after work or a pre-dinner function space on request.

Just a few of my favourite hotels in the Bristol Area. You can rest assured these recommendations come from my first hand experiences and as a result I would happily recommend them all, or talk about them in detail, for your next event proposal.

Bristol itself is easily accessible from both the M4 and the M5 and is a very dynamic and vibrant location with lots of changes happening, all of which are set to improve an already diverse city!

I hope this has helped you narrow down where to go for your next meeting or event. If you have any of your own favourites then we’d love to know where and why?

If you want to know more about any of the venues featured in this blog, or have an enquiry where you wish to consider Bristol as a location, then don’t hesitate to contact us on +44 (0) 1793 792200 or email [email protected] – one of the team are happy to talk through the best options for you!
