Spotlight on…is a unique look at individuals from Venues and Events International providing insight into their daily roles and why they have a passion for the meetings and events industry. Here is our latest Spotlight on…Amy Standen, Junior Conference Planning Executive.
I started in April of this year so just over 3 months now!
I haven’t seen a whole lot but my favourite at the moment is definitely De Vere Tortworth Park, I spent my birthday there with my boyfriend and it’s beautiful!
I’ve always wanted to work in events, I love organising and planning things and seeing them through from start to finish. Seeing the end result working so perfectly and hearing everyone’s feedback from something you put your heart and soul into brings me so much joy. All I ever wanted from a job is to be happy and love what I’m doing and I finally feel like I’m doing that!
I haven’t been in this career for long but the fact that I’ve come from no experience at all and this company were willing to take a chance on me is amazing.
There is no typical day in this industry! You can have a plan one minute and then it totally goes out the window! You’ve gotta stay on your toes and I love it!
I had a very specific and seemingly impossible task to source a venue to allow a cooking class, close to a park and pub and for £500! It took me all day but I found two brilliant options!
Just be passionate. If you don’t love this industry then you will struggle, although we get a fair few perks there is also a LOT of hard work that goes in to each day.
I try not to think too far in the future and my career has only just begun so I’m more than happy in my role at the moment but I’d definitely like to move over to the events team at some stage!
There’s always a buzz in the office on a Friday! Everyone is feeling accomplished from their hard working week and looking forward to their weekend plans!
