Spotlight on…is a unique look at individuals from Venues and Events International providing insight into their daily roles and why they have a passion for the meetings and events industry. Here is our fourth Spotlight on…Karen Wakefield, Partner Support.
I have many favourites, but one of them is the Caribbean.
I love working with suppliers and in a procurement environment, negotiating to get the best for the company.
Gaining the experience and knowledge in many different fields of employment, which has given me a very broad understanding of business, which I feel is a great asset.
Meeting with suppliers, responding and sending emails to communicate with suppliers and keep them up to date with the latest news and publications, updating supplier information and contract databases. Setting up suppliers with Supplier Packages.
Working for a previous company, I was based in Germany for a short period, to assist in setting up and delivering requirements to a new client, so expectations to my colleagues and our clients back home in Swindon were high. The Swindon branch was going through a lot of changes at the time, including a big refurbishment. We were working to very short deadlines and it was at the companies busiest time of year, this was a great highlight in my career but so very challenging too. I learnt a lot about myself and my abilities at that time.
Always ask for help if you need it, we have a lot of experience around us, work as a team, prioritise and organise your workload, but this is key in any job role anyway.
Hopefully still enjoying my role here at Venues and Events International, with complete knowledge and experience within the company.
Going home at the end of the day with a happy positive mind because my day at work has been enjoyable and productive, always look forward to the weekend and spending time with my family too.
