Spotlight on…is a unique look at individuals from Venues and Events International providing insight into their daily roles and why they have a passion for the meetings and events industry. Here is our latest Spotlight on…Katie Venner, Conference Team Supervisor.

How long have you been at Venues and Events International?

2 years 3 months (But I have worked for Anita for over 4 years)

What would you say is your favourite venue or destination?

That’s a real toughie as in this role you get to see so many amazing venues, but I would say that the Farncombe Estate has a special place in my heart, along with Stoke Park.

What made you want to become a Conference Team Supervisor?

I love planning and organising so events seemed a natural fit for me, then becoming a supervisor within the team has now allowed me to feed my passion for people, and being able to support them within their own development.

What is your biggest highlight of your career so far?

There have been so many highlights, but one that sticks in my mind is an annual conference that I organised with a Quintessentially British Theme, this had so many fun and exciting elements to it and the best part was getting amazing feedback from our client after the event – which is what it’s all about after all!

Can you describe a typical day of your job?

There really is no typical day in my job, EVERY day is different and I truly wouldn’t have it any other way… variety is the spice of life as they say and this job has bucket loads of it!

What’s been your biggest challenge to date?

Don’t get me wrong, our quirky country offices on the farm are a beautiful setting but it certainly is a challenge tangoing with the flies on a daily basis.

What top tip would you give to anyone coming into the industry?

Take one day at a time, run with the highs and roll with the lows, get out and see as many venues as you can, keep things fresh, be proud of your achievements and keep your clients at the forefront of everything you do!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

Who knows…. I love learning new things and progressing within the company I work for, so hopefully onwards and upwards!

What gives you that #FridayFeeling?

Knowing that I have made a difference, however small, to my client’s, and hopefully my teams experience during that week.
