Spotlight on…is a unique look at individuals from Venues and Events International providing insight into their daily roles and why they have a passion for the meetings and events industry. Here is our latest Spotlight on…Kelly Stevens, Conference Planning Executive.

How long have you been at Venues and Events International?

I started on the 15th of May 2017

What would you say is your favourite venue or destination?

My favorite venue is Fawsley Hall in Daventry – the hotel is located in such a peaceful part of the country side with an outdoor spa and it also does great afternoon tea.

What made you want to become a Conference Planning Executive?

I had previously worked in the hospitality industry in Spain but wanted to move back home to the UK. I wanted to continue and increase my knowledge with a local events company to set down roots and begin a career.

What is your biggest highlight of your career so far?

One of our FAM trips took us to Dublin for the weekend. It was a fabulous weekend which involved going to see Coldplay at the Croake Park Stadium along with a tour of the city and the Guinness Storehouse! We stayed at the beautiful Alex Hotel which is part of the O’Callaghan collection.

Can you describe a typical day of your job?

No day is ever the same and I have 3 different clients who all have specific needs and requirements. One minute I can be venue sourcing, this can be within the UK or Europe, to confirming clients events once they have decided to go ahead. Also various admin tasks to ensure payments are made and invoices have been reconciled. Final details is the most crucial stage as this will set the scene of how the whole meeting or event will run. This is everything coming together and reflects on all of the work you have put into the booking.

What’s been your biggest challenge to date?

I had taken over a big roadshow for one of my clients that my manager had previously worked on for the past 10 years. I wanted to make sure that the transition was seamless and that I was delivering the same level of service the client is used to.

What top tip would you give to anyone coming into the industry?

To be good at multi-tasking and be prepared to be part of a fast paced environment. Your day can change in an instant and you have to put down what you’re doing to work on another project and be able to dedicate your full attention to each task in hand.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

Hopefully within the industry with 10 more years’ experience under my belt.

What gives you that #FridayFeeling?

Knowing that I have completed everything required during the week. All of my clients have been serviced. Gaining good feedback from events that have happened and knowing that I can go home feeling relaxed ready for some R&R at the weekend before all the fun begins again on Monday.
