Anita Lowe & Olivia Unsworth – The Mondrian

How long have you been at Venues and Events International?

7 months but it feels a lot longer – in a good way!

What would you say is your favourite venue or destination?

Definitely The Mondrian in London. We ran a press event for MAN Truck & Bus there, one of our automotive clients, and it was a great success! It’s such a cool and quirky venue, with amazing views over the city.

What made you want to become a Junior Event Manager?

I had little experience in the events industry but was desperate to get my foot in the door but I had previously carried out work experience at a travel and events agency before taking a role within digital marketing. After realising this wasn’t for me, I decided I really wanted to be in the events industry and in a role where I can utilise my creative skills with my passion for seeing projects successfully roll out and my love for travelling. I am super lucky to have been given the opportunity to work in the events team at Venues and Events International and feel I have flourished with the help of my team members and manager.

What is your biggest highlight of your career so far?

By far my first event! This was an incentive style trip to Munich, Germany in May which I headed up alongside our CEO. I learnt a tremendous amount whilst working on the project and gained some invaluable experience. Watching the guests enjoying themselves and experiencing the true Bavarian culture was so worth all the extra hours.

Can you describe a typical day of your job?

I wish! Everyone says it but that’s because it is just so true – there is no typical day in the events industry and definitely not here at Venues and Events International.

What’s been your biggest challenge to date?

I would say that my biggest challenge to date would be throwing myself into a role that is so different to my previous role. Although it was a challenge, it definitely showed me I made the right decision coming into the events industry and I’m super proud of how far I have come regarding my industry knowledge and event experience.

What top tip would you give to anyone coming into the industry?

Always have a PMA (positive mental attitude) – the days can be extremely long and the work can be tiring, but by remaining positive not only lifts your own spirits, but the rest of your team!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

I see myself working a much more senior role within the events industry, I’d love to be organising an array of events that allow my personality to come through and show off my creativity.

What gives you that #FridayFeeling?

Being able to go home knowing that my work has made my clients life easier and that they are happy!
