Event Manager Eloise Perry gives her top tips for choosing a sustainable venue.

C&IT Magazine have published their 2019 Sustainability report following their C&IT Surgery forum event in association with Cvent. The report provides practical tips for identifying ‘quick wins’ such as opting for Chicken instead of Beef on event menus which on an event for 500 people could save 628,00 litres of water in food production! 

Sheepdrove Conference Centre

Nestled in the countryside of Lambourn, is a truly remarkable venue – the Sheepdrove Conference Centre. This sustainable venue is an innovative model of environmentally responsible farming driven by concern for the community, environment and animal welfare. The Sheepdrove Conference Centre steer clear of depending on fossil fuels to meet the demands of a venue and instead have used activities such as wind turbines, solar panels and electric powered vehicles. The centre offers multiple versatile spaces, the largest accommodating up to 150 delegates. The centre now boasts on site accommodation for up to 18 guests as well as a herb garden planted by renowned grower Jekka McVicar .

De Vere Orchard Hotel, Nottingham

The De Vere is a stylish, eco-friendly hotel located on the campus of Nottingham University. The hotel was awarded the award for Best Sustainable Venue at the 2019 CHS Awards. The hotel is designed in a contemporary style makes the most of natural daylight and was built to the highest possible environmental standards. Featuring 202 bedrooms this hotel is an idea spot for the business world due to neighbouring East Midlands Conference Centre.

The Crystal

The Crystal has been distinguished as one of the world’s most sustainable buildings and set an extraordinary bench march for sustainable design. The Crystal practices an all-electric building that uses solar power and a ground source heat pump to generate its own energy. The striking, angular, dark glass construction is a permanent exhibition, education space as well as serving as conference area that can seat 270 delegates in an auditorium.

One Aldwych

One Aldwych is located in the bustling city of London and continues to push the green envelope by offering a combination of sustainability and luxury. The newly refurbished hotel offers vast number of different suites and meeting rooms that have been tailored to be more pro-active in being sustainable .One Aldwych proudly presents that it is the first hotel in the UK to use STEP (luxury eco-certification standard accreditation) which allows the hotel to manage every aspect of the sustainable business, from LED light upgrades and using eco-friendly paint to a full recycling service.


Ortus is a multi award winning conference and events venue in Camberwell. The Ortus is easily accessible with its nearest station a mere 2-minute walk. The Ortus venue fits effortlessly in the Georgian surrounds whilst capturing a modern feel.
