The shops are filling up with Christmas treats, and our phones are buzzing with enquiries from clients to start finding the perfect venue for their 2021 Christmas party. With this in mind, and for those who are still considering their options, Laura shares seven trends to think about when planning you 2021 Christmas party.

1. Thursdays are the new Friday

With so many having missed out on a Christmas party last year, demand is set to be higher than usual this season. As a result, venues may well be fully booked over the weekend, meaning Thursday or even a midweek night could be a better – and cheaper – option.

2. Bye-bye buffet, hello bowl food!

Be prepared to say farewell to the buffet table. While the situation is ever-changing, plenty of venues and caterers are adapting their approach this year, offering canapés, bowl food, and sit-down Christmas meals instead.

3. Business meets pleasure

For many, this year’s Christmas function may be the first time the whole company is reunited in the same room in two years. As such, expect to see more “combined” events, with conferences or awards ceremonies segueing into a festive lunch/dinner.

4. Let me entertain you

With live events only just returning, this Christmas we’re predicting a rise in seated entertainment as a Covid-cautious alternative. Shows are set to be a popular choice – think comedy slots and cabaret performances instead of the usual packed bars and clubs.

5. A longer booking season

Whatever your chosen party format, London Christmas event-planning is shaping up to be a particularly competitive process this year. Bear in mind some companies have already got events booked due to postponements from 2020 – this is the year to get in early!

6. 2021 Christmas Party Trending Themes

It’s all about a theme that creates a lasting memory. And your Christmas party doesn’t always have to have a festive theme. Although we do love a bit of tinsel. Here’s just some of our ideas for how to theme your Christmas party.

  • Roaring 20s
  • Dream circus
  • Under the Christmas tree festive experience
  • Winter secret garden party
  • Burlesque
  • Electric jungle
  • Glamour of Paris
  • Midnight in Monte Carlo

7. Virtual is still an option

Many clients reverted to a virtual Christmas party in 2020 and they were a huge success. Everything from: wine and food tasting, chocolate or cocktail making and even Secret Santa. So, if you’re still not quite ready to get your team back in a room, or you have teams across multiple geographical locations, virtual is still an option.
