Celebrating St David’s Day
March 1, 2022

On the 17th of February, Anita and Sue held a webinar discussing Industry Trends in 2022. For those who missed it, here are some of the key points our suppliers shared with us and an overview of new hotel openings in 2022.

What Is Trending in The Industry and What Do Suppliers Think?

  • While there’s nothing new in that everyone wants the same dates, many events have rolled over from 2020/21 so availability is tight. Currently, quarters 1-3 are getting booked up fast. Big events in London are starting to make a return as restrictions slowly ease.
  • Lead times patterns have always varied depending on many factors, but we are now seeing a general shift towards very short lead times. Currently 60% of our booking enquiries at Venues and Events International are within 1-2 weeks of the event’s arrival date.
  • Types of events are changing. Many venues confirmed they are seeing fewer small meetings and more larger events with lots of celebrations of teams reuniting. Venues with outdoor space were popular last year and this trend is continuing. Businesses are making the most of every outdoor area with some fabulous restaurants opening outside at venues.
  • Venues with car parking are also being regularly requested as many delegates choose to drive to events or at least have that option.
  • Incentives, CSR, and giving back to the community are being taken seriously when looking at activities.

We Asked Venues For Their Advice To Our Bookers:

  • Venues we spoke to all recommended early booking to avoid disappointment.
  • Also, to ensure contract terms are checked and understood before committing as many COVID-19 clauses have been removed.
  • For overseas bookings, venues are encouraging businesses to check vaccination requirements and ensure delegates meet the requirements.
  • Hybrid and virtual events are here to stay so stay up to date with virtual communication technology.
  • If the pandemic has taught as anything, it’s that technology can be used to meet very successfully when there are challenges with meeting face to face! There are some great ways of gathering data around engagement and participation too.  Also, for wider events outside the UK, great cost savings on travel.

New and Exciting Hotel Openings

  • Opening in Spring 2022, the Virgin Hotel group is unveiling venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow. Each hotel will have over 200 bedrooms and will be hotspots for meetings and events with their well-kitted-out spaces.
  • The Gleneagles Townhouse Hotel and private members club in Edinburgh. Situated in St Andrews Square, this hotel and members club is a luxurious new addition to the city centre.
  • The new Great Scotland Yard Hotel in Whitehall, London is a quirky new venue that is themed around Scotland Yard and various famous criminals. They have a great meeting space and plentiful bedrooms.
  • The Brooklyn Hotel, Leicester opening in spring 2022, offers high-class corporate hospitality and atmospheric accommodation. The hotel will be a great base for any Leicester Tigers fan as it’s right next to their home turf.
