Our venue spotlight this week, chosen by Rebecca, is the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club – Edgbaston Stadium. It is located in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham, England.

Edgbaston Stadium is one of the leading venues in world cricket and It is the fourth-largest cricket venue in England with a capacity of 25,000. It has been the home of Warwickshire County Cricket Club since 1885, however only held their first test match in 1902. This gave them cause for expansion of their facilities. Throughout the 20th century the grounds continued to gain popularity and more expansion efforts were undertaken.

Redevelopment

In 2011, the Edgbaston started phase 1 of its £32 million redevelopment plan. This saw the renovation of the West and South stands, creating some of the best facilities of its kind for spectators, hospitality guests, players and officials alike. Winvic Construction have been appointed as the main contractors to complete phase 2 of the Edgbaston masterplan, with all works expecting to be completed in 2023.

Phase 2 will see the construction of a new entrance plaza, car parking facilities and ‘The Edgbaston Residences’ complex. The new complex will consist of 375 high quality retail apartments, with leisure opportunities. Their aim is to be the most sustainable cricket stadium in the UK, with initiatives such as using electricity that comes exclusively from renewable sources and the use of recycled delegate stationery.

Event Space

In terms of event space, Edgbaston Stadium has 39 different spaces. Ranging from executive boxes, to the 1050sqm Exhibition Hall, enabling the venue to host a huge variety of events. The venue can also host virtual and hybrid events, with state-of-the-art broadcasting equipment including an LED backdrop and scalable lighting system. The venue is located 1.5 miles from Birmingham New Street Station and 80 minutes from London via train, making the site easily accessible. There are also over 400 on-site complimentary car parking spaces available.

Why I love this venue

I love this venue because it offers so much, with such a range of event spaces and offerings, it can cater for exhibitions, board meetings, team away days and so much more. Located a stones throw from Birmingham, it is easily accessible and a venue to remember!
