For this week’s Venue Spotlight, we present De Vere Tortworth Court, chosen by Hannah who recently visited the hotel. Situated north of Bristol, this historic hotel has stunning surroundings with 30 acres to explore, housing more than 300 plant and tree specimens. The hotel is just off the M5, and only 40 minutes from Bristol Airport. Guests can hop-on a non-stop service from Bristol Parkway to London Paddington taking just over one hour. This Grade II* listed hotel is extremely accessible for guests.
The Tortworth Estate belonged to wealthy local nobleman, Sir Nicholas Kingston during the reign of Edward I in the 14th century. Then, it belonged to the De Veel and Throckmorton families for 200 years, before being purchased by Sir William Ducie. The Tortworth Estate remained the ancestral home of the Ducie family for the next 350 years. The Ducie family finally sold the estate in 1991 which was purchased with the intention of turning into luxury flats, before a devastating fire forced it to lay untouched for a decade. The hotel received a £20 million restoration in 2018, which now has 14 event spaces for up to 400 guests. It has everything from a Victorian orangery to the modern Westminster Suite.
This venue is ideal for events and meetings as the orangery, a Victorian splendour creates an unrivalled setting for events. Victorian grandeur, period detailing and beautiful ornate features come together to set the scene for a range of events in the orangery, a Grade II* listed conservatory built in 1874. From a private intimate dinner to a huge wedding, the ornamental glass ceiling and windows create a memorable backdrop. Standalone from the main house, there is also an outdoor dining area, ideal for summer events or team meetings.
There is a choice of 201 guestrooms featuring plasma televisions and complimentary superfast Wi-Fi access available throughout the hotel. Their rooms have private bathrooms with shower/tub combinations which include complimentary toiletries and hair dryers. The 30-acres of ground would be a fantastic location for outdoor team-building activities as well as the hotel facilities such as visit to the spa for a massage or facial. Da Vere Tortworth Court also features nutritionist-approved food and wellness facilities including health club, indoor heated pool, and sauna.
Dining at De Vere Tortworth Court provides plenty of choice for everyone. With the 1853 Restaurant & Bar serving up classic British dishes or the Atrium Bistro Bar offering a range of comfort foods in remarkable surroundings. Guests here dine under a 60-foot-high glass roof with photogenic feature walls, creating a comfy spot for a few drinks.
“The reason the De Vere Tortworth Court is so special is because it’s a setting like no other. It is soaked in rich history and full of gothic Victorian architecture. In other words, this venue is a place where a centuries-old story meets an exceptionally modern experience. It’s just perfect for any event or occasion with its versatile mixture of old and modern, there is something for everyone and everything.”
